Beginner Level 1: Holiday Ornaments

Even if you can't draw a proper stick figure, you can make dots! From its roots in Aboriginal Australian cultures, dot painting is now growing in popularity as an art form because it's easy, affordable, and accessible to people of all ages. Plus, it is incredibly calming for your mind and nervous system!

Join Dianne to learn basic techniques to create dots of all sizes. You will be provided with a practice sheet, a small wood heart ornament and a plastic disc-shaped ornament (clear or glitter-filled from available colors,) six dotting tools to use, and acrylic paint for mixing colors. You will also learn how to "walk" your dots and make simple swooshes for an unlimited variety of patterns.

Beginner Level 2: Journal/Planner

The start of a new year is a great time to reflect on your self-growth and to set goals for the coming year. Journals and planners are great tools to help keep us on track, and personalizing them with your own artistic expression also checks our box to create more art in 2026 - win-win!!

This workshop will focus on how to build out your mandalas from the center point, adding smaller details and embellishments with design elements of shapes, colors, and patterns. Prior experience dotting is not required, though it will be helpful to watch a few beginner videos on Youtube and attempt to practice a few basic skills on your own beforehand. Since layers of more intricate designs take time to dry in between, it is possible you may not fully complete your book in the 3-hr time frame.

The location is TBD and will likely be in Southwest Austin, unless the majority of registrants live north. Stay tuned.

Cost is $40 - includes tools, acrylic paints, and paint pots to use. Hardcover (soft touch) A5 journals are available for pre-purchase of $15 - please indicate your top 3 color choices when paying, or you can bring your own notebook or planner to decorate. *Note that not all surfaces are good for dot painting, especially if fabric, textured, or highly glossy. The tool kit and paints you choose can also be purchased for an additional $15.
